my son is 8 years old, and since pre-school the teachers have told me that he might have an adp disorder. I hasd him evaluated by different specialists that came to my home, and they all thought there was some kind of problem, but could'nt put their finger on it. I then learned that my son might have an auditory processing disorder from his speech teacher at school. She said that she would bet her reputation on it as her daughter and husband have it as well. so i took him to an audiologist who did the testing, and found that he had a decoding deficit. I have to take him back now that he's 8 for the rest of the test. The idea is that the brain is'nt fully developed in the areas that have to do with processing, so by 8 or 9 they are. he gets speech 3x's a week at school as well as counseling.1x a week. His main problem is reading . He really can't read without one on one help. I told his teacher this year that was my main concern but he gets no extra help like resource room or anything. I was going to try tutoring but don't know if that would help. I work with him every night with sight words and a huge book from the library to help him read, but i feel like it's somehow not giving him the help he needs. His main problem at school is that i've always been told he gets very distracted. so that also goes with adp. i'm hoping and praying that maybe by this website someone might also have the same issue and have some useful advice. i 'll do anything to help my son.
